From the moment a woman receives a breast cancer diagnosis, her world changes instantly. Within seconds, she is forced to begin the fight of her life — a fight that not only brings immense physical, emotional and financial stress, but also takes a heavy toll on her self-esteem.

In 2010, roughly 23,000 Canadian women were hit with this devastating diagnosis.

But imagine a place that offers a sense of hope during the cancer journey — a place built on a foundation of friendship, support and survivorship. That place is Sorrentino’s Compassion House in Edmonton.

Since 2002, this unique facility has been a home away from home for hundreds of women from across central and northern Alberta, Northwest Territories and northern BC. For up to six weeks, these women find the comfort and motivation to fight with everything they have. It is our mission to ensure that more women with breast cancer will have access to sanctuary and compassionate support when they need it most.

Each year, more and more women are diagnosed with cancer in our region. This is due to factors like earlier detection, an aging population and population growth. As a result, the number of accommodation requests at Sorrentino’s Compassion House has increased dramatically — and sadly, hundreds of women have been turned away. With your help, the Compassion House Foundation is determined to change this reality.
